Dependents

Quick-Start: Optional.

Dependent's names are necessary only in order to differentiate between them (for privacy considerations, please use nicknames and not their real names). Their birth dates are required to determine eligibility for benefits and grants.

Dependents are considered for the Canada Child Benefit (CCB), for RESPs, for dependent credits, care-giver credits, disability credits and for the CPP Child Rearing Provision. IMPORTANT: If the dependent has income, you must enter it in INCOMES.

Please input any children (these can also be future planned children) under 18, or disabled/infirm/handicapped. For non-disabled children, their dependency (for tax purposes) ends at age 18. For disabled children, the default is set far in the future, but you can change the date.

Please input any other dependents (like your your elderly parents or grandparents that are dependent on you). They could be current dependents or you can plan for a later date when they will become dependent on you and for how long.

Adult, independent children are required only if you or your spouse acted as their primary caregiver (only one can apply for the Child Rearing Provision of CPP).

Note we use the tax terminology for disabilities. In summary: Disabled: Eligible for the Disability tax credit. Quebec has 2 Tiers. Infirm, Handicapped(Quebec) : Not eligible for the Disability tax credit.
We aim to calculate taxes and benefits accurately given you inputs, but we cannot guarantee the results.
