Current-year reports — Year Check-in

This report provides three views of the current year for a TIME MACHINE run that includes a Year Check-in. Use the buttons near the top of the report to switch between:

  • YTD: January 1 through the Check-in date.
  • Rest of the year: The TIME MACHINE projection from the run date through December 31.
  • Full year: The YTD amounts combined with the projection for the rest of the year.

The Rest of the year view is the same forward-looking current-year projection produced by an ordinary TIME MACHINE run. The YTD and Full-year views are added by the Year Check-in.

Blank YTD amounts mean that the necessary information was not available. They do not necessarily mean that the amount was zero. Use Improve Check-in to add or correct elapsed-year information.

Cash flow

The Cash In and Cash Out tables provide detailed breakdowns of income, spending, account withdrawals and contributions, loan activity and taxes for the selected period.

The YTD report combines calculated income and expenses with taxes, account activity and loan activity entered in the Check-in or estimated where possible. The Full-year report combines these amounts with the TIME MACHINE plan for the rest of the year.

The Sankey diagram provides a visual summary of the same cash flows. For the YTD and Full-year reports, the diagram is shown only when the account and loan activity needed to reconcile Cash In and Cash Out has been supplied. The Rest-of-year diagram is based on the TIME MACHINE projection.

Taxes

Personal income taxes are calculated for the complete calendar year and cannot be divided into two independent tax returns.

In the YTD view, taxes and deductions paid to date are shown beside the TIME MACHINE’s complete current-year tax calculation. Entered YTD tax information is used when supplied; otherwise, it is estimated from the information in the plan.

The Rest-of-year view retains the same current-year tax calculation used by an ordinary TIME MACHINE run. It calculates the annual taxes and then accounts for taxes and deductions already paid during the year. The Full-year view shows the resulting calculation for the complete tax year.

Balance sheet

The Balance Sheet is a point-in-time statement rather than an amount accumulated over a period. The YTD view shows account, property, loan and net-worth values at the Check-in date. The Rest-of-year and Full-year views show their projected values on December 31.

Account reconciliation and investment income

For the YTD period, account activity is reconciled using:

Current balance − previous year-end balance − account-owner contributions + withdrawals

The resulting Implied growth / other activity is not necessarily investment return alone. It may also include employer, government or other-person contributions, transfers, fees, currency movements and differences in the information entered.

The Rest-of-year report shows investment gains projected by the TIME MACHINE from the run date through December 31. The Full-year reconciliation combines the Check-in information with the projected activity and December 31 account balances.
